How to get to the Sky Lagoon

From the center of Reykjavík to the Sky Lagoon by rental car

If you are renting a car then It takes 15 minutes to drive from the center of Reykjavík to Sky Lagoon. This of course can vary depending on where you are staying in Reykjavík but the majority of hotels, hostels are within that radius, give or take 5 or 10 minutes.

From the center of Reykjavík to the Sky Lagoon by walking

If you are walking, it will be a brisk 1 hour and 40 minutes. It is not a bad walk actually. You would be walking past some of Reykjavíks most famous landmarks, like Hallgrímskirkja and Perlan. Additionally, a good 40 minutes of the walk is by the coastline with excellent views. Keep in mind, Icelandic weather is precarious and ever shifting so dress well. Personally, I would not take this walk in the winter, but then again I am not outdoorsy.

From the center of Reykjavík to Sky Lagoon by taxi

Taxis are always an option, but they are notoriously expensive. It’s hard to give an exact figure as they charge by the meter. There are two rates: daytime and nighttime.

Expect to pay around 4,000 ISK from 8:00 to 16:00, and after 16:00, expect to pay around 5,000 ISK. So, your price going there might be cheaper than coming back. These rates are for the most well-known taxi company in Iceland, Hreyfill. Their phone number is +3545885522

We don’t have Uber in Iceland, but we do have an imitation called Hopp. The only thing Uber and Hopp have in common is that they both operate through apps. They might be slightly cheaper than regular taxis, but not by much. Also, there aren't that many, so it can be hard to find a free car.

Even though you don't use the taxi service, it is worthwhile to download the app for their E-scooters.

From the center of Reykjavík to Sky Lagoon by scooter

While I haven’t taken this journey on an electric scooter and couldn’t find reliable sources, I estimate it would take about 25 to 35 minutes to ride from central Reykjavík to Sky Lagoon. I wouldn’t recommend this trip in winter, as icy sidewalks increase the risk of accidents. As with walking, it’s important to dress warmly if you choose this mode of transport.

Zolo and Hopp scooters are available throughout Reykjavík. Zolo is marginally cheaper, but the difference is minimal. Expect to pay between 1,000 and 1,500 ISK for a one-way trip, depending on the duration.

Sky Lagoon or Blue Lagoon?

ravelers often ask me this question, and I see it frequently in various Facebook groups. Of course, this question doesn’t apply now due to the recent volcanic activity and closures of the Blue Lagoon.

However, if you have to choose between the two, go to the Blue Lagoon. If you’re wondering whether to visit both, then yes—you should do both. Both are excellent experiences.

The Blue Lagoon is something you won’t find anywhere else. The Sky Lagoon could be built anywhere. Both are man-made, but the geological surroundings of the Blue Lagoon are unique. The Sky Lagoon’s location was chosen for its proximity to Reykjavík and access to inexpensive hot water.

Both are nice, but the Blue Lagoon is truly special.
